PowerDsine Integrated PoE Solutions

PowerDsine offers innovative silicon solutions for PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) applications. The chips & modules (total PoE solutions on standard DIMMs) integrate power, analog and advanced digital logic functions into a single device. It is optimized for use in Ethernet switches, routers and midspans, allowing next generation network devices to share power and data over the same cable.

PowerDsine's solutions are designed to answer a broad range of needs – from the high-end Enterprise all the way to SOHO, SME and residential applications. Industrial switches are also a main target, as IC temperature range applies to industrial environments.

Implemented using Freescale's SMARTMOS8™ technology, PowerDsine solutions allow the detection of IEEE 802.3af - compliant terminals (powered devices or PDs), ensuring safe power feeding over Ethernet ports. With full digital control via a serial communication interface and a minimum of external components, the ICs can integrate into any switch, router or gateway.

PowerDsine PoE Midspan - Lower total cost of ownership

PowerDsine's PoE Midspan offers significant financial benefits when compared to upgrading existing Ethernet switches or replacing them with new, PoE-compliant switches.

  • Low purchase cost - Installing a PowerDsine's PoE Midspan costs less than upgrading to new PoE switches, since Midspans can easily connect with existing Ethernet switches. Sunk costs are maintained (i.e. current switches) and the expense is incurred only for the PoE Midspan, as opposed to purchase of brand new PoE switches (that would be purchased most likely only for the PoE support).
